Spending time in the word, not the world

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Matthew 6:33

Often times people feel exhausted by the weight of the world and the things that encompass it. There are many seasons we go through in a lifetime, some longer and harder than we ever thought. But this statement above, spending time with God before anything of this world is something you must do through the good and bad seasons.

I think the reason why people feel the weight of their problems all at once is because of where and how they start their day. So let me ask you this: when you wake up in the morning, what do you reach for? Your phone or your Bible?

In a day where everything is at the touch of the finger, good news, bad news, and all the garbage on the internet, filling your mind with all of that first thing isn't the best idea.

The word of God is the fountain of life. It’s daily bread, not cake for special occasions. In the good seasons, we need His word. In the bad seasons, we need His word. In Ephesians 6:11 it says “Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devils schemes.” We put on the armor of God by reading his word—how simple yet powerful. When we read, it gives light to the eyes, discernment to the hearts, and wisdom and knowledge to the mind. When you put on the armor of God first thing in the morning by seeking Him, you set the tone for the day. How does one stand without it? It’s impossible not to feel the weight of the world if you aren’t filled with the word.

I want to encourage whoever is feeling this weight to throw it off, cast it on the Lord, ask for His help, and seek His face first thing. Wake up early, make time for Jesus. Growing in your relationship with God may require discipline and sacrifice, but I can promise you, it will be the sweetest way you will ever spend your time while here on earth. Just think, the creator of Heaven and Earth wants to spend time with us, how cool is that! If you don’t know how or where to start, just start small. Read the verse of the day (The Bible app) read in proverbs or psalms, google a Bible reading plan, get a devotional (Hope for Each Day//Billy Graham), just get in the word and allow God to fill you with every good thing. Peace that surpasses all understanding, wisdom and knowledge, discernment, discipline, love, and so many other things. If you want the Author of Life to speak to you, mold, and grow you, how can he if he doesn't know you? Talk to Him like a friend and in return a King for a friend will be yours.

Seek first.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground
